GEFCO is importing new volumes of Citroen cars for the UK market through Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port. GEFCO is importing around 500 cars a week using an LD Lines' service. James Humphrey, manager of GEFCO's Southern automotive centre said, "Our trials involving C5 saloon and estate cars went very well and the flexibility and accessibility of Portsmouth made it an easy decision."

Leningrad region is a major gateway to the Russian market GEFCO Russia's activities in the Leningrad region are expanding. In June, Peugeot and Citroën vehicles were delivered to GEFCO’s new automotive platform ‘Yug-2’ at Ust-Luga for distribution throughout the country. Growth in the automotive sector has bolstered GEFCO Russia's development in the Leningrad region, which is a major gateway to the Russian market and thus a strategic region for the Group.
GEFCO Slovakia has opened a new 2,000 m2 cross-docking platform in the region of Trnava for the collection and short-term storage of consignments weighing from 10 kg to 3 tonnes. GEFCO Slovakia offers a full range of supply chain solutions to optimise transport for automotive equipment makers and two- and four-wheel vehicle manufacturers, as well as high-tech and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies. GEFCO expects that the platform in Slovakia is poised to become a major consolidation point for road freight in Central and Eastern Europe.

He reports to Howard Nash, head of the automotive division, and assumes responsibility for the management of all Gefco's vehicle import and technical centres, as well as sales development and customer service in all areas. He has worked in the fleet and leasing industry for over 25 years, and most recently held senior sales and operational management positions with Manheim Auctions and Inchcape Fleet Solutions.

GEFCO has revealed that a rail link to transport vans between Portbury and its Sandtoft regional distribution centre in South Yorkshire, has taken more than 4,000 truck journeys off the road during its first year in operation.

Following a shipment of the first 500 Citroen C5's into the UK GEFCO now brings in the first shipment of the new Citroen C5 estate cars and is looking at opportunities for a longer term deal to make car shipments a fixture at Portsmouth port.

As part of its drive to increase rail use, GEFCO has reinstated a twice-weekly freight train link from Sheerness to Corby and has also launched a weekly rail service from Sheerness to Immingham. Each train carries up to 200 cars per journey, taking up to 20 trucks off the road each time.

GEFCO has given a sizable donation to Coventry based charity, Global Care. Global Care has been working together with the Coventry Telegraph to collect and send good quality school furniture and basic school equipment to poor rural schools in northern Uganda, where the charity has been working for 25 years. GEFCO, has made a £1000 contribution towards the cost of transporting this equipment to Uganda.

GEFCO has begun to import Citroen C5s through Portsmouth Port, boosting the city's freight business. GEFCO have revealed a trial batch of up to 500 Citroen C5s will be brought in through the ferry port. If this goes well then at least 12,000 could be brought through the port each year with many likely to be transported by rail using the port rail-freight depot at Fratton.

GEFCO was responsible for an exceptional transport towards the end of 2007. It organised the carriage of 50 plastic elephants for the Elephant Parade in Rotterdam (Netherlands), a charity event within the framework of an international campaign to save the Asian elephant. The elephants were transported to Rotterdam by GEFCO.
The French logistics service provider GEFCO has opened a new branch office in Nizhny Novgorod, the capital of the Volga Federal District in southwest Russia and the centre of the country’s automobile industry.
